The cheerfully outspoken staff at John Smedley’s factory have been brought together to discuss the future of energy in this candid, humorous and thought provoking film, brought to life with the tactile beauty of stop-motion animation.

The campaign is for a stunning animation film called The Rumour Mill, it is a film that will not only be entertaining but also hopefully go along way to highlighting the fact that the general public, along with art and film can make a difference to the debates that are usually politically driven.

Rare piece of film history found of Huddersfield’s Roy Castle

A rare piece of film history has been found featuring Huddersfield-born actor Roy Castle.

It’s in a Mr Bean-style comedy role where he doesn’t utter a word.

Mike Taylor, of the Projected Picture Trust, rescued the reels from a friend’s house after a fire and handed them to Reel Solutions, based at Dean Clough, Halifax, one of the biggest private archives in the country.

Battle of the Somme Film Screening

This year, Imperial War Museums (IWM) and members of the First World War Centenary Partnership are working together to show the UNESCO listed film The Battle of the Somme, to audiences across the world.

Shot and screened in 1916, it was the first feature length documentary about war and changed the way both cinema and film was perceived by the public.

One hundred years later, this unique film from IWM’s collection, is being shown to commemorate the anniversary of the Battle of the Somme.

The film screening is free to attend but booking is essential. People wishing to attend need to email the film team at and reserve a place and state which time slot they would like.
