An astounding occult thriller from the pen of Anthony Shaffer, The Wicker Man has built a substantial cult reputation since its original release in 1973. Edward Woodward is the pious Scottish copper lured to a remote island to investigate the disappearance of a young girl who finds the locals strangely unwilling to help, while Christopher Lee gives arguably his best performance as the terrifying Lord of Misrule who governs with hedonistic benevolence. Possibly the best British film of the Seventies.
