The slasher movie came of age with Black Christmas, a killer-is-among-us whodunit that, with its point-of-view shots and heavy-breathing killer, foreshadowed Halloween by four years. Students as a Canadian sorority house are terrorised by sinister prank calls from a man they dub ‘The Moaner’. It isn’t long before the bodies start to pile up, and as the police eventually take an interest, we learn the calls are coming from very close to home… Keeping us guessing right up until the end, Black Christmas plays nerve-jangling games with its audience. An insidiously creepy cult classic.
