The relationship between the resilient governess Jane Eyre and the proud and passionate Mr Rochester has stirred imaginations for almost 200 years. William Hurt is Rochester and Charlotte Gainsbourg his plain Jane in this ‘90s adaptation of Charlotte’s Bronte’s dark and stormy novel, which was largely shot on location in North Yorkshire. Veteran Italian director Franco Zeffirelli brings his customary style to this timeless tale, which benefits from an extraordinary cast of theatrical heavyweights.
