A fascinating documentary that looks into the art that was created from the energy of the Russian Revolution. With great clips from the films of Eisenstein and an insightful commentary this is a captivating journey into the work of the great artists against the political turmoil leading to the social realism during Stalin’s reign.

Drawing on the collections of major Russian institutions, contributions from contemporary artists, curators and performers and personal testimony from the descendants of those involved, the film brings the artists of the Russian Avant-Garde to life. It tells the stories of artists Chagall, Kandinsky and Malevich – pioneers who flourished in response to the challenge of building a new art for a new world. Surprisingly, those challenges carry resonances into the 21st Century.
