As night falls on the sleepy town of Llareggub, two strangers pass through the quiet cobbled streets. Andrew Sinclair’s inspired film adaptation of Dylan Thomas’ ‘play for voices’ casts Richard Burton and Ryan Davies as the drunken, rollicking nocturnal visitors, with cameos from Peter O’Toole (as blind Captain Cat) and Elizabeth Taylor (as sailors’ whore Rosie Probert). A formidable Celtic ensemble including Siân Phillips, Glynis Johns, Angharad Rees, Vivien Merchant and Talfryn Thomas breathes wonderful life into Thomas’ verse, peering into the quiet town and its deliciously eccentric inhabitants. Under Milk Wood is a spellbinding verbal epic with a star performance from the rich, vibrant voice of Richard Burton.

Under Milk Wood is a classic! I have seen the film three times; I shall see it at least three times more. Pure poetry!” – Judith Crist, New York Magazine

Writer and broadcaster Tony Earnshaw presents an exploration of the work of a fearless and versatile performer. Lion of the Welsh is a lively and objective re-consideration of Richard Burton’s oeuvre, using many of the actor’s own words and clips from his films. Runtime: 50 mins.

“Outstanding.” – Lee Pfeiffer, Cinema Retro
