  • Choose four characters from the play. Draw them as you picture them and write a list of adjectives next to the pictures. Here are some examples – you can use these and add others.
    • Grave
    • Content
    • Strong
    • Isolated
    • Frivolous
    • Narrow-minded
    • Optimistic
    • Petty
    • Joyful
    • Neurotic
    • Domineering
    • Eccentric
    • Meddlesome
    • Inquisitive

  • Create three or four characters of your own and design diagrams to describe each one fully. Physical appearance is not important; it’s their personalities and attitudes that matter.

  • Write a short scene that reveals the attitudes and personalities of your characters. Look at how these characters might walk and sound. Working in small groups, each member of the group to direct their own scene then be an actor in another person’s scene.

  • Show the dramas to the rest of the class and have a discussion on reactions to the scenes, what worked and why, and what could have been improved, and why.
