Academy Award nominated screenwriter, director and producer Nora Ephron was born on this day in 1941.

Ephors began her career as a journalist and made her first foray in the world of film in the 1970s whilst married to fellow journalist Carl Bernstein. The pair were asked to rewrite the script for All the President’s Men (1976) and although their script was not used it was on the back of this that Ephron was offered her first screenwriting job.

In 1983 wrote the screenplay for Silkwood and received her first Academy Award nomination for Best Original Screenplay. Following this she received further nominations for blockbuster romantic comedies When Harry Met Sally… (1989) and Sleepless in Seattle (1993).

She is also known for the films You’ve Got Mail (1998) and Julie & Julia (2009).
