Academy Award winning actress Cate Blanchett was born on this day in 1969.

She began her career on stage in Australia and made her screen debut in Paradise Road (1997) and that same year had her first starring role in Oscar and Lucinda.

Her first high profile role was in the critically acclaimed Elizabeth (1998), earning her first Academy Award nomination for Best Actress. She reprised this role for the sequel, Elizabeth: The Golden Age (2007) and again received a Best Actress nomination.

She received Best Supporting Actress nominations for Notes on a Scandal (2006) and I’m Not There (2007).

For her portrayal of Katharine Hepburn in The Aviator (2004) she received the Best Supporting Actress Academy Award and Blue Jasmine (2013) earned her the Best Actress award.

Blanchett is also known for her roles in the films The Talented Mr. Ripley (1999), Charlotte Gray (2001), Little Fish (2005), Babel (2006), The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (2008), The Lord of the Rings Trilogy (2001-2003) and The Hobbit Trilogy (2012-2014).
