On this day in 1954 Alfred Hitchcock‘s Dial M for Murder was released in 3-D. It was based on the play by English playwright Frederic Knott, who also wrote the screenplay for the film adaptation.

During the early 1950s the film industry enjoyed a brief flirtation with 3-D technology and Dial M for Murder marked the end of the affair. Hitchcock himself is quoted as saying “It’s a nin-day wonder, and I came in on the ninth day.

Leading actress Grace Kelly Received a BAFTA nomination for Best Foreign Actress.
