Happy Birthday to Academy and BAFTA Award nominated director Stephen Daldry.

Daldry began his career in theatre, receiving the Laurence Olivier Award for Best Director of a Play in 1993 for an Inspector Calls and again in 1994 for Machinal. He made is feature film directorial debut with Billy Elliot (2000) which won the Best British Film BAFTA Award and Daldry received the Best Director Academy and BAFTA Award nominations.

His next film, The Hours (2002), received 9 Academy Award nominations including Best Director for Daldry, Best Picture and Best Adapted Screenplay. Nicole Kidman won the Best Actress Award.

The Reader (2008) received 5 Academy Award nominations with Daldry receiving his third nomination as Best Director and Kate Winslet receiving the Best Actress award.

Daldry’s fourth film, Extremely Close and Incredibly Loud (2011) was nominated for the Best Picture Academy Award and Trash (2014) was nominated for the BAFTA Best Film not in the English Language award.
