This event will explore the major issues of the British Cinema’s most successful period in terms of productions and audiences. Case studies of the star James Mason and the producer Betty Box will enable us to explore all aspects of the industry and particularly Gainsborough Studios – home to thrillers, melodramas and comedies.

Tea and coffee are available in the Mechanics Institute Library. There are places nearby to buy lunch but you are also welcome to bring your own.

Tickets are £14 and £9 concessions.
