Amanda (France 2018)

Amanda (France 2018)

Tuesday 23 March, 7pm

Amanda is the first film directed by Mikhaël Hers to get significant international distribution, although it took until 2020 to reach UK cinemas.

Hers is a graduate of the Paris film school La Fémis and known for his films about relationships and settings in Paris, sometimes prompting comparisons with Truffaut and Rohmer.

Amanda caused a stir because of both its subject matter and its presentation.

At its centre is the relationship between a young girl and her 24 year-old uncle who is required to become her guardian.

This film moved many audiences and the big question is how does it present emotions?

We will simply focus on this one title.

It is available on All4 but if you wish to watch it without adverts you can rent it from various streamers. Find out where it’s available by using this useful service – Just Watch. (You may still need to check for adverts though.)

Try to avoid reading anything about the film before you watch it. This will be tricky since All4 gives away a major plot point in its brief description.

We will not charge for this event which will offer a discussion session on Tuesday March 23rd at 7pm.

There will be a set of notes but on this occasion there will not be a presentation.
